David Byers from The Times reports that more than a million people who own a flat could have to pay a higher service charge to cover the cost of tougher fire safety checks to comply with new standards brought in since the Grenfell fire. 

Uncertainty over government safety guidelines has stopped the owners of high-rise flats with cladding of any type being able to sell or get a mortgage. Aaron Strutt, of Trinity Financial, a mortgage broker, told The Times: “There has been an increase in the number of lenders asking for cladding reports before they will provide mortgages.”
