Skipton for Intermediaries has improved its self-employed contractor mortgage proposition.

The lender is offering a generous policy assessing self-employed contractors using their daily contract rate x 5 x 48 weeks.

To qualify clients will need a minimum of two years experience in the chosen profession and have a minimum of one year's contract history. They must also have a minimum income using the daily rate of £50,000 per annum.

Contractors will need to provide a CV to confirm two years’ experience, a copy of the previous contract(s) covering a minimum of one year and a copy of the current contract. They will also need the latest monthly business and personal bank statements.

Aaron Strutt, product director at Trinity Financial, says: “Over the last couple of years more of the lenders have started to target contractors because there are a reported 1.8m self-employed contractors working in the UK.

“Our brokers have access to a wide range of lenders offering contractor mortgages including Metro Bank, Clydesdale Bank, Virgin Money, NatWest and Halifax. Each lender will typically have different acceptance criteria.”
