HMRC sets up rental sector task force

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has set up a task force to tackle landlords not paying tax on the rental properties they own. The new department will concentrate on the South East of England and aims to recover nearly £4 million. HMRC says that they are on target to collect more than £50 million as a result of taskforces launched in 2011-12. Task forces are a result of the Government's £917 million spending review investment to tackle tax evasion, avoidance and fraud from 2011-12, which aims to raise an additional £7 billion each year by 2014-15.
