Borrowers waiting three weeks for bank branch mortgage advice

Borrowers are finding it harder to get mortgage advice from a qualified financial adviser, research by Legal & General shows.

Their adviser availability index highlights that the Mortgage Market Review hasn’t helped the situation in many areas of the country, with banks in Manchester, Swindon and Bristol struggling to offer weekend and evening mortgage appointments.

Jeremy Duncombe, director at Legal & General Mortgage Club, told Mortgage Solutions magazine that full-time workers will struggle to make mid-week mortgage advice appointments but it's important borrowers receive timely advice.

"As properties are in such high demand and rates at record lows, many consumers are unwilling or unable to wait three weeks to see a bank adviser, especially if they are ultimately unable to help, forcing the borrower to start the process all over again with another lender."
