Swedish bank Handelsbanken has announced it will open its 200th branch in the market town of Chippenham, which is located between Bath and Swindon.

The bank operates over 840 branches in 25 countries and first established UK operations in the early 1980s. Overall, it employs over 1,900 staff in the UK.

According to the lenders latest quarterly financial report, it manages £8.3 billion in customer deposits, while total lending to UK customers has reached £14.6 billion.

Anders Bouvin, Handelsbanken’s UK chief executive, said: “Time and again, our branches are bowled over by the warm welcome they receive in their local communities.

"This tells us genuine local banking relationships are as valued today as they always were, which is why we have built our digital and other services to reinforce, rather than replace them.”
