The Telegraph - Barclays scraps cheapest mortgage as inflation fears mount

Barclays has pulled the cheapest two-year fixed mortgage from the market after soaring fuel prices triggered fresh inflation fears…

Aaron Strutt, of Trinity Financial, said: “This move puts pressure on lenders like NatWest and Nationwide as some of the remaining lenders offering fixed rates below 5pc. NatWest has a five-year fix at 4.98pc, and Nationwide has a 4.93pc two-year fix and a 4.89pc five-year fix.”

Barclays’ decision comes after the Bank of England held rates at 3.75pc on Sept 17. However, expectations are mounting that there could be another increase in the Bank Rate before the end of the year.
