First-time buyers with small savings were given a boost this week as banks cut mortgage rates.

Aaron Strutt, of broker Trinity Financial Group, says: 'The more deposit you put down, the lower interest rate you'll pay. 'You should also keep your credit record squeaky clean to have the best chance of being accepted for a loan.'
