Government plans to allow homeowners to build larger property extensions by relaxing planning rules, are being opposed by Conservative run Richmond council. BBC News London reports that other councils are also likely to oppose rule changes. The Government plans to allow up to eight meter extensions on the back of some homes, but Richmond council says they want to ensure green spaces are protected. Councillor Geoffrey Samuel, the deputy leader of Richmond council, told the BBC: “The majority of councils will think the way we do. I think there will be a degree of flexibility and second thinking which will achieve some of what the government wants.” September 21, 2012
