More than 80,000 borrowers have used the Help to Buy scheme to purchase a property since it launched two years ago.

Government figures show some 42,753 buyers have used the equity version of the scheme (Help to Buy 1) since it launched, with 35,364 being first-time buyers. Some 31,000 Help to Buy 2 borrowers have been first-time buyers nearly 80% of the total take-up.

Since the introduction of Help to Buy the amount of competition between lenders has increased considerably and there are more 5% and 10% deposit mortgages. Borrowers will need a provable income and strong credit score in order to qualify.
