HSBC is offering some of the most competitively priced mortgage rates to British expats and foreign nationals.

Applicants must have a minimum income of £75,000 per annum to qualify, excluding bonus income, commission, overtime and any buy-to-let rental income.

If you are applying for a residential interest-only mortgage, you will need a minimum income of £100,000.

Aaron Strutt, product director at Trinity Financial, says: “For joint applications, at least one applicant must meet the minimum income requirements.

“There is a maximum loan-to-value of 75% and additional lending cannot be used for debt consolidation. Borrowers must also make the mortgage repayments from a UK bank account.”

***Please note, Trinity has access to HSBC's residential expat and foreign national mortgages, the bank does not offer buy-to-let mortgages through brokers.

Approved countries

Non-UK residents can apply for a mortgage, but they need to be resident in one of HSBC’s approved countries.

They include: Armenia, Australia, Bermuda, Channel Islands & Isle of Man, Egypt, France, Greece (but only to Greek residents who do not hold Greek nationality or citizenship), Hong Kong, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia (for existing HSBC International Bank customers), Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates including Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain).

Foreign nationals living in the UK

If you are a foreign national living in the UK, HSBC will treat all applications from the European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals and Swiss National as if they are UK nationals.

The bank will accept applications from Non-EEA foreign nationals with indefinite leave to remain. It will also accept the right of abode, where applicants can live or work in the UK without any immigration status.

HSBC provide mortgages to customers with indefinite leave to remain, providing they have lived and worked in the UK for at least 12 months at the point of application. They will also need to have a work permit or visa with at least 12 months left to run.
