Halifax for Intermediaries is offering a scheme where they will pay the stamp duty tax for first-time buyers purchasing properties between £125,001 and £250,000. Halifax mortgage rates are competitively priced although not the lowest in the market.

Analysis by Halifax shows that there were 268,800 first-time buyers who purchased a property last year, an increase of 23% compared to 2012.

Almost half of the property purchases nationally by first-time buyers were for homes valued between £125,000 and £250,000. However, there were large regional variations between the prices paid by first-time buyers.

For example, in the South East (75%) and South West (71%) of first-time buyers purchasing property paid up to £250,000. In the North of the country a lower amount of first-time buyers (23%) paid up to this amount.
