Brandon Lewis has been promoted to housing and planning minister following the latest government reshuffle. It is the first time both roles have been awarded to the same minister by the coalition.

The Conservative MP for Great Yarmouth was previously a parliamentary undersecretary in the Department for Communities and Local Government and replaces Kris Hopkins who was housing minister for 10 months.

Mr Lewis is taking on the planning brief from Nick Boles, who was promoted to the role of minister for education and business.

The Prime Minister David Cameron has made the job of housing minister a full ministerial role, although not a Cabinet position.
