Borrowers waiting to meet bank mortgage advisers: L&G

Mortgage borrowers are having to wait to book appointments with bank mortgage advisers despite the introduction of the Mortgage Market Review, according to Legal & General’s latest ‘adviser availability survey’.

Legal & General's mystery shoppers spoke to six of the largest high street lenders with branches in London, Manchester, Swindon, Ipswich and Bristol.

They found that it takes an average of two weeks to book a weekend mortgage appointment and 7.9 days for a meeting during the week.

Jeremy Duncombe, director at Legal & General, said: “With activity in the housing market likely to pick up over the coming months, it seems many borrowers will have to wait to see their options and get the advice they need.

“Anyone who is struggling to get an appointment with a bank should seriously consider using a broker.”
