The latest complaints data published by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) shows that there were nearly 2.5 million new complaints opened against financial services firms between July and December 2013.

This represents a 15% fall compared to the previous six months. Bank of Scotland is the most complained about mortgage lender with 15,075 complaints, although Santander is not far behind with 12,257 complaints. The Nationwide Building Society, Cheltenham & Gloucester and Barclays Banks received over 14,000 mortgage complaints between them. The FCA pointed out that the banks are improving, although they need to do more.

They said: "This is an indication that firms seem to be putting customers at the heart of their business. However, there is clearly more for us all to do to show consumers their interests come first".
